Free-Agent Patrick Kane Closing In On Decision
The NHL's free-agent market doesn't have many big names left, but one that stands out above the rest is future hall-of-famer Patrick Kane. The veteran forward has yet to sign a contract for next season, and continues to mull over offers from multiple teams.
Kane turns 38 in November and despite his age and serious leg/hip injuries over the past few years, can still produce at a very respectable clip. Kane dressed in 67 games for the Detroit Red Wings last season, scoring 16 goals, and adding 41 assists, for 57 points. He's not the player he once was, but there's no denying he's still very capable of playing top-six minutes, and being a game-changer with the man advantage.
With all the drama surrounding the Detroit Red Wings, Kane doesn't sound very interested in heading back to a team without Dylan Larkin. GM Steve Yzerman hasn't been able to construct a team that's capable of getting over the hump, and his lack of moves is the main reason Larkin wants out. There's been rumblings that Alex DeBrincat has also informed the team he's not interested in signing an extension, which makes things even more complicated in Motown.
As far as teams to keep an eye on for Kane, the Buffalo Sabres top the list. They've been searching for a replacement for Alex Tuch, and while their games are very different, Kane, the hometown hero, could be returning to Buffalo on a one, or two-year deal.
Three other teams to keep on the radar include the Toronto Maple Leafs, and two of Kane's former teams in the Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers. The Blackhawks are dealing with a serious Connor Bedard injury from yesterday's practice, but are trying to find veteran talent that can help propel their development. Meanwhile on Broadway, GM Chris Drury has been busy retooling the roster on the fly and is looking to take a step forward next season despite all the roster moves.🚨No idea what’s going on and if it’s out there yet because I’m stung in Vancouver but hearing Patrick Kane will sign with his hometown team the Buffalo Sabres by tomorrow. Full details are being worked thru. Ok I’m getting back on the piss. Happy Canada day everyone. I love the…
