NHL TRADE: Canucks & Rangers Swing Deal For Marcus Pettersson

The New York Rangers have been trying to address their blueline, and they've done so in a deal with the Vancouver Canucks to bring Marcus Pettersson back to the East.

A conditional first-round pick in 2030 heads to Vancouver in return. The pick will be top-10 protected, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports.

Pettersson waived his no-movement clause to allow the trade to go through, and he now heads back to the Metropolitan division, where he spent parts of seven seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The solid puck-moving defenseman instantly joins the Rangers' top-four, and the 30-year-old brings a very reasonable contract at $5.5 million AAV for another five seasons.

The 6’5″ Swedish blueliner had a tough first full season in Vancouver, with a plus/minus rating of -19 and just 18 points. But we can chalk that up, at least in large part, to the dreadful season of the team around him. Pettersson had never had a minus-rating in his previous eight NHL seasons.
