Vancouver Canucks Rejecting Pettersson Trade Offers
According to sources close to the Vancouver Canucks management team, expect to see Elias Pettersson starting next season as a Canuck.
Pettersson has struggled these past couple of seasons and has been linked to multiple trade destinations over the course of the last 24 months, however, the Canucks haven't even approached the player about a list of teams he'd approve a trade to. Pettersson is inked through the 2032 season at $11.6 million, and owns a full no-movement clause.
The Canucks were open to trade offers to see what kind of market exists for Pettersson, however, every offer they've received has asked for a trade sweetener and salary retention, something Vancouver's management team have no interest in. Pettersson appeared in 74 games last season, recording 15 goals and 51 points, averaging 18:57 of ice-time per game.
Many felt the Chicago Blackhawks, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Carolina Hurricanes were the favorites to acquire Pettersson when trade talks were hot, but they've since fizzled out, and he won't be traded before the puck drops on the 2026-27 season.
Thomas Drance: I don't think Elias Pettersson would have a significant amount of trade value, I think the club would like to move him if they could; the fact that they haven't speaks to how limited their options are - Athletic Hockey Show (7/29)
If he gets off to a tough start next season, expect to see the noise pick up in a major way, and the Canucks would then be left with no choice but to strongly consider their options finding Pettersson a change of scenery.
