NHL Free Agency: Bruins Head List of 6 Suitors for UFA Brock Boeser
As two-time All-Star Brock Boeser gets set to take his 25+ goals to unrestricted free agency, reports have the Boston Bruins planning a 'significant push' for the former Vancouver Canucks forward, with five other teams also in pursuit.
Per James Murphy of rg.org, one NHL source said this wouldn't be the first time the Bruins have tried to land Boeser.
The Bruins went hard for him last summer, and even before that.
They tried again at the NHL Trade Deadline... but then things went south fast, and they were sellers. They like him a lot and will go after him.
Notably, in GM Don Sweeney's first NHL Draft as head man in Boston, he actually passed on Boeser with all three of his first round picks, before the player was finally selected 23rd overall by the Canucks. Now, with six 20-goal seasons on Boeser's resume, Sweeney has obviously regretted passing on him, and is trying again to right that wrong, 10 years later. (incidentally, the Bruins selected Jakub Zboril (13th pick), Jake DeBrusk (14th, and Zach Senyshyn (15th) ahead of Boeser.)
But the Bruins will have plenty of competition in the market for the right-winger. According to Murphy, six teams in all will be aggressive to try to land Boeser:- Boston Bruins
- Montréal Canadiens
- Minnesota Wild
- Detroit Red Wings
- Los Angeles Kings
- Utah Mammoth
Boeser is a native of Burnsville, Minnesota, and recently, one insider proclaimed the Wild as being "close to terms" in landing him. But the new intel seems to suggest that is not a done deal, by any means.
The Canucks forward had 25 goals and 25 assists this past season, following up his 40-goal year in 2023-24.
Vancouver hasn't completely given up on re-signing him, but it certainly sounds like he'll be moving on.
