Breaking NHL News: Big Extension for Hurricanes' Logan Stankoven

The Carolina Hurricanes couldn't get Mikko Rantanen to stick around, but the key piece they acquired in flipping him to the Dallas Stars, Logan Stankoven, has jumped feet first into an eight-year extension with the Canes.

It's a solid piece of business for the Hurricanes, who get the 22-year-old center for the long term with only a $6 million cap hit.

The tenacious 22-year-old Stankoven was a second-round pick of Dallas in 2021, and had nine points in 19 games after arriving in Carolina. He finished the season with 14 goals and 38 points in 78 games, then added another eight points in 15 playoff games, in what was officially his rookie year. He played 24 games for Dallas in 2023-24.

He was the American Hockey League’s Rookie of the Year that season after registering 24 goals and 33 assists for 57 points in 47 games with the Texas Stars.

“From the moment he arrived in Raleigh, it was clear to us that Logan was a Hurricane,” said Canes GM Eric Tulsky. “We’re thrilled that he agrees, and is committed to being a big part of this organization long term.”
