Maple Leafs Trying To Trade 2 Forwards As Free Agency Begins

Leafs GM Brad Treliving is trying to unload two bottom-six centers

The Toronto Maple Leafs made a few nice moves on the eve of Free Agency,  swinging a couple of trades that added some depth to the middle-six, and salvaging at least something in return for losing Mitch Marner.  Not to mention getting a critical extension done with Matthew Knies.

But now as the Free Agent Frenzy opens, they've got more business to do, and are hoping to clear out more cap space by dealing a couple of forwards who just don't fit on the roster any longer.

Per Nick Alberga, host of Leafs Morning Take, Toronto is hoping to get out from under the contracts of centers David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok.

Kampf still has two years to run on an ill-advised four-year deal, at a $2.4 million cap hit. The 30-year-old managed a meagre five goals and 13 points in 59 games this past season. He was a healthy scratch on numerous occasions, including all but a single playoff game. In four seasons in Toronto, he has 31 goals and 85 points in 301 games.

Jarnkrok spent most of this past season on injured reserve. But when the 33-year-old did make it back into the lineup, he provided very little, with one goal and seven points in 19 games. He has one year remaining at a $2.1 million cap hit.

Yes, centermen are in short supply on the market this summer, and teams everywhere are on the lookout for one, but there's apparently not much interest in either of Kampf or Jarnkrok at this point.
