Top Remaining UFA Jack Roslovic's Contract Ask Revealed
He's been the top remaining free agent for a few weeks now. Jack Roslovic has been heavily linked to the Vancouver Canucks and other teams as well. But what's the holdup in getting a deal done?
It certainly doesn't sound like his contract demands are anything overwhelming, as reported by Elite Prospect's Cam Robinson, appearing on the Sekeres & Price podcast this week.
From what I heard, his camp is looking for ideally a three year deal. As the summer wears on, term is going to be more difficult to get. So maybe they give up one of the years and maybe they get a little more on the cap hit for a one-year or two-year deal.
Robinson then goes on to suggest that a $3 million contract for one year would be a "fine opportunity for a guy like Roslovic," while also indicating that Vancouver would be a good spot for him.
AFP Analytics had projected a three-year, $4 million AAV deal for the free agent as the offseason began, but it doesn't sound like he'll be able to secure that, certainly not at this point in the summer.
Roslovic equaled his career high with 22 goals this past season for the Carolina Hurricanes, with 39 points in 81 games. And he did it in just 13:49 average ice time per night. It's his defensive play that limits his earning upside.
The 28 year-old is a former first round pick (25th overall, 2015 NHL Draft), and in nine NHL seasons, he's averaged right around the 40-point per full season mark, with 260 points in 526 games. Pretty good production for a bottom-six forward who can move up and down the lineup.
