Jack Hughes Adds Fuel to Quinn Hughes Trade Rumors
The Quinn Hughes situation in Vancouver just got a bit stickier. After it was revealed in the spring that the Canucks' captain would want to be united with his brothers Jack and Luke one day (both of the latter play for the New Jersey Devils), we're now hearing from Jack that he, too, wants to see it happen.
Insider Pierre LeBrun had a conversation with the Devils' star center, asking him if he discusses with Quinn the possibility of playing together one day. Jack admitted that he would "love" for Quinn to... He cut himself short from saying "...come to New Jersey," but made it clear he wants to play with his older bro.
"This is the headline question, you know?,’’ Jack smiled in answering LeBrun's question.I asked Jack Hughes about whether he talks to his brother Quinn about his future and possibly playing together.

``Honestly, I'm not afraid to say it. Yeah, I would love for Quinn to -- eventually I'd love to play with him. And whether that's in New Jersey or at what time that takes, at some point, I want to play with Quinn. But yeah, that's the question going around. They talk all day about it up in Vancouver, you know? But yeah, I'd love to play with Quinn at some point.”
The controversy actually began when Canucks president Jim Rutherford revealed after the season that he believes his Norris Trophy-winning defenseman would like to play with his brothers one day. The trade speculation has been ongoing to various degrees ever since. Quinn still has two years remaining on his deal with the Canucks.
A recent report indicated that it's time for Vancouver to 'start contemplating what a blockbuster Quinn Hughes Trade might look like.'
And these new comments from Jack Hughes just add more fuel to the fire.
Quinn Hughes was the 7th overall selection in the 2018 NHL Draft by the Canucks, while Jack was first overall in 2019 by the Devils, and the youngest of the three brothers, Luke, was selected 4th overall by New Jersey in 2021. Luke is one of the notable restricted free agents still without a contract at this point, and he is hoping for his deal to line up with Jack's, and expire in 2030. His GM, however, feels that he could be a holdout at camp if no deal is done.
