NHL Trade Rumors: Sidney Crosby's Agent Says Trade Is 'A Possibility'

Sidney Crosby gets set for a face off

The Sidney Crosby rumors are about to hit fever pitch once again. Crosby's agent, Pat Brisson, was asked by insider Pierre LeBrun if there was actually a chance we could see #87 leaving the rebuilding Pittsburgh Penguins. His answer has opened the floodgates to trade rumors:

Let’s put it this way, it’s always a possibility, you know?

It’s been three years they haven’t made the playoffs. It all depends on how Sid is going to be and how the team is going to do. I maintain the same position that I do believe that he should be playing playoff hockey every year. In my opinion.

Brisson was referring, of course, to the fact that the Penguins are far from a Stanley Cup contender right now, and even from being a playoff team. They haven't made it to the postseason dance 2022, and haven't won a playoff series in seven years.

Crosby has three Stanley Cups in his 20-year career with the Pens, but Brisson (and Sid the Kid, naturally) are anxious to get him at least one more.

'We want Sidney to be in the playoffs every year': Crosby's agent

"We want Sidney to hopefully be in the playoffs every year. We want him to hopefully win another Cup or two," added Brisson.

"So each year the team that he’s playing for fails to make the playoffs, it creates a lot of speculation. In reality, he’s not getting any younger. We’re here to support him. It’s the beginning of the season here. Let’s see how things are going. Hopefully they have a great season and the speculation will go away.”

LeBrun then cites an interview Crosby did with Matt Larkin of Daily Faceoff Monday night. The Penguins captain's answer to the question of dealing with the trade speculation because of all the losing his team has been doing, was telling.

“It’s not something you want to discuss," said Crosby. "You’d rather be talking about who we’re getting at the (trade) deadline or, you know, where we’re at as far as, are we one or two or three in the division?...

Crosby talks about 'the hard part about losing' with the Penguins

"That’s the hard part about losing. I think everybody thinks that the buzzer goes and you lose a game and that sucks, but there’s so much more than that. It’s the (roster) turnover. It’s the unknown, the uncertainty, the question marks — that’s the stuff that’s tough. It makes you appreciate all those years that we were competing and going after the big acquisition every single trade deadline. I don’t think I took it for granted, but I definitely appreciate it that much more now."

Crosby's answer just drips of the angst of not being on a competitive playoff-bound team.

It sounds like he, like his agent, is leaving open the "possibility" of a trade.

Certainly, this won't be the last we'll be hearing about it this season.
