Report: Larkin Trade To Wild Contingent On One Key Factor

If there's any chance at all of Dylan Larkin being traded to the Minnesota Wild this offseason, it would be contingent on one player who MUST be included in the deal, per insider Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet.
The Red Wings would have no problem trading Dylan Larkin to Minnesota if the Wild were prepared to part with Matt Boldy. Other than (Matt) Boldy, there is nothing else Detroit GM Steve Yzerman is too interested in.

We'd have to believe that Larkin wouldn't be pleased to go to Minnesota if his Team USA teammate was sacrificed to do it.

Boldy, 25, a star young forward, is coming off his best NHL season with 42 goals and 85 points. He is an untouchable for Minnesota.

What the Red Wings & Larkin's options if no trade with Minnesota?

Wild GM Bill Guerin has been willing to send young center Danila Yurov in a deal to Detroit, but that's not getting it done for Red Wings boss Steve Yzerman.

Larkin, the Wings' captain and top-line center, requested a trade at the beginning of the offseason, after spending the first 11 years of his career in Detroit.

But without any other viable trade scenarios right now that would satisfy Stevie Y, Kyper suggests that there are three options available to Larkin:

1. Open up the trade demand to more teams. The Wild and Golden Knights don’t have anything that excites Detroit.

2. Prepare to start next season with the Red Wings.

3. Prepare to stay home and not get paid.

As of July 1, door No. 2 looks like his best bet.

For now, a Dylan Larkin trade doesn't look imminent, from all accounts. There are still a couple of months to try to get something done, but if Kyper's prediction is correct, we could be looking at an awkward situation in Detroit when training camp rolls around.
