Once it was clear that he'd be leaving Columbus, Mason Marchment became one of the most sought-after forwards on the free agent market. He has quickly made his decision, coming to terms on a big five-year deal with the San Jose Sharks.

As noted by Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet, Marchment's father Bryan played a number of years with the Sharks, and has also held off-ice roles there as an executive.

Friedman is suggesting it's a five-year deal for Mason with about a $7 million AAV, big money for Marchment.

The 6'5" forward, after a slow start with the Seattle Kraken this season, exploded upon being traded to the Blue Jackets earlier in the year, with 15 goals and 32 points in 39 games, with a plus/minus rating of +21 while logging a career-high 17:41 average time on ice.

AFP Analytics had projected Marchment for a three-year deal with a $5.67 million AAV, so the 31-year-old has blown past that with this big deal.
